The Guild of Valuers & Jewellers

At Wongs we use the lovely and extremely knowledgeable people at The Guild of Valuers & Jewellers for all our valuations.

Determining the value of a piece of jewellery or a watch requires a great deal of skill and experience. And The Guild of Valuers & Jewellers is the UK’s leading specialist in independent jewellery valuation and registration services.

Their expert valuers will carefully examine your jewellery or watch and use their experience and the latest technology to arrive at an informed opinion and provide you with a written valuation. Using unique reference numbers to ensure watertight security, each valuation is registered by the Guild and can then be accessed by your insurer for underwriting purposes. This is done through a dedicated and secure website where insurers have to apply for access and undergo a security check. The police can also access the database via another dedicated website to match recovered items of jewellery with those registered as lost or stolen.

You can also access your own valuations to check your registration through the consumer site then, once you’ve registered, you can view your own portfolio online.

Each valuation includes:

  • An introductory letter.
  • The Schedule including detailed descriptions of each item and its value.
  • Notes to the Schedule with explanatory notes on abbreviations and other terms.
  • Information on what to do in the event of a loss or theft.
  • A glossary including information on how stones are graded etc.
  • Instructions on how to access the valuation online.
  • The Insurer Notice for you to pass to you insurance provider.
  • A Guild Valuation.
