A Day In the workshop with Elliot

Elliot made a fabulous bangle with a hammered effect

Elliot's role here at Wongs is a Financial and systems Manager. His responsibilities are to make sure all payments, stock and systems are running smoothly!

Elliot mentioned that he found that his workshop experience was very fun and educational. He says 'Peter was a great instructor and was very patient as it was a completely new experience for me'. Creating a silver bangle in a workshop involves a combination of creativity, precision, and skill. So, with the help of Peter Wong, he guided Elliot through his whole workshop experience! Peter was able to share his knowledge with Elliot to make sure he was doing the correct methods that our workshop use every day! From placing the silver through the rolling mills to shaping it into the perfect shape that Elliot had in mind for his design.

Firstly, he began making the bangle by placing the silver through the rolling mills to create the desired shape which was then cut to the perfect size of metal needed to create this piece. Throughout the making of the bangle, Elliot annealed the metal which is a process of heating and cooling the metal. Annealing the metal is essential as it makes the metal malleable which is a lot easier to work with and can then be moved into a circular form. After that, it is then in a circular bangle shape and ready to solder. Elliot filed down the rough edges to make a smooth and wearable piece of jewellery. The hammered effect showed his attention to detail when creating a piece of jewellery.

After the piece has been made, he polished the bangle to achieve a smooth and shiny finish. He did this using a mixture of polishing cloths, compounds and with a polishing machine.

This design is unique and the effect looks lovely on the silver metal. He wanted to make this lovely bangle to match all of his other jewellery which are also silver! Elliot says that he is extremely happy with his choice of design and wears it everyday! Elliot's design choice inspired Thomas Wong to also make a silver bangle as he used it as a reference when making his own.
