BTS: A Day In The Workshop

Back to the workshop with Jenny!

Her first time back in the workshop in 18 years! What did she make?

Jenny works on the shop floor as the assistant manager and is celebrating 35 years at Wongs this year!

She joined the Wongs team back in 1989 on a Youth Training Scheme and trained with Brian Wong for 17 years in his fabulous workshop! Once the store moved from rainford square into the shop you see today, she knew that it would be a natural progression for her to move from the workshop to start creating designs for jewellery in forms such as CAD. (Computer Aided Design). Click here to book an appointment with Jenny to create your dream piece of jewellery!

'I love the process of helping design a new piece of jewellery from sentimental items to purchasing an engagement ring…it’s such a lovely thing to be part of.'

35 years difference!

Jenny loved being back at the bench! She says that not much has changed apart from a new laser and engraving machine which is really the only high tech equipment as everything else are traditional tools and techniques which have been used for many years. Using the tools again, it's something you never really forget but she said she felt a lot slower than she used to be

Whilst being back in the workshop, she made a lovely plain band from 9ct yellow gold which she plans to add diamonds to at a later date

She loved being back in the workshop as it gave her a refresher of all of the time and how much hard work goes into making jewellery

Jenny used a ring that she already had and melted it down which she was then able to use the gold in her 'A Day In The Workshop experience' to make a new ring. This is process that we do quite a lot for our customers and is extremely popular especially with sentimental jewellery.
