Every diamond is unique, whether formed deep within the earth or created in a modern laboratory. Each sparkles with its own character and beauty, yet all diamonds share key features that allow us to compare their quality.

This 4Cs applies to both mined and laboratory grown diamonds, with the key difference being how they are formed: mined diamonds develop naturally in the earth over millions of years, while laboratory grown diamonds are created in controlled environments within just a few months. These features are called the 4Cs - Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat.

Starting with the rough diamond, they will decide how to cut and polish it to create the most beautiful stone, ensuring perfect balance and symmetry of all of the facets. Only diamonds with these perfect proportions and accuracy are chosen to ensure your diamond is truly dazzling. 

The quality of the cut is most important to ensure your Wongs diamond captures and refracts the light in the most sensational way, creating optimum sparkle and everlasting love.

Because diamonds form under tremendous heat and pressure, it is extremely rare to find a diamond that lacks any internal and external characteristics. These characteristics are a by-product of its formation and help gemmologists separate natural diamonds from synthetics and simulants, and identify individual stones. 

Here at Wongs, our diamonds are hand-selected to be visually perfect to the naked eye. Any ‘inclusions’ in our diamonds are barely visible even at ten times magnification.

At Wongs, our expert team only hand select exceptional diamonds in the colourless range (D-F) which are often referred to as ‘exceptional’ or ‘rare’ white.

This pure colour is something everyone can spot - a flash of light quite sensational, appearing beautifully bright and white. Diamonds are graded from ‘D’ (colourless) to ‘Z’ (tinted). No one knows what happened to A,B,C, some say they started the scale at ‘D’ for ‘Diamond’. Colour grades are determined by comparing each diamond to a master set. Each letter grade represents a range of colour and is a measure of how noticeable the colour is.

Carats are the measure of weight in a stone, not size as is often perceived. In this instance, putting weight on can be viewed favourably, however ‘small and perfectly formed’ is also a great approach. 

At Wongs, we believe a better quality of diamond is always the best choice, regardless of the weight. In all of our engagement rings, we engrave the diamond weight inside the shank for guarantee and reference.
